PERSONALITY
Very different from his older brother, Jason is the kind of person who's been mature beyond his years since early childhood. He's reliable and levelheaded, always one to take the time to review every facet of any given situation before acting on it - he just doesn't like making a decision without feeling like he's considered every possible outcome, but of course that's not always to people's liking as it can take an excessive amount of time. He's not very popular at school, as he's a bit of a book worm and very studious. Not necessarily the kid who would remind the teacher about homework in front of the class, but he would definitely approach them afterward to make sure he's caught up to date on anything he might need to do. He's always loved school, which may have something to do with the fact that learning comes easily to him, and he always pushes himself to excel. He's not necessarily trying to achieve perfection, but if he feels he should have done better, it doesn't matter what the grade he got is, he will be disappointed in himself and double down on his studies to make sure he does better the next time around. Which does mean he is sometimes that annoying kid in class who's upset over getting a 95% if he felt he should have been well enough prepared to get a perfect score.
Writing has been a passion of his since he was little, and he's always kept a journal to jot down his thoughts and ideas. Sometimes it's just aimless rambling, just to try and clear his head, finding the activity to be grounding. He doesn't know yet that he specifically wants to undertake a writing career, as he's very well aware that it's rarely a sustainable way to earn a living, but he doesn't really care about making money off of his stories. He just enjoys the creative process itself, without the need for reward. As he neared the end of middle school, the topic of attending the Academy as his parents did before him did come up, but seeing as Lexie is not artistically inclined at all, he declined the offer, not really wanting to move away from home and especially from his sister. In the end, he did sign up for a creative writing class he could attend on the weekend, which has helped him improve his writing tremendously. He does have a tendency to get lost into his own little world when he's reading or writing, which means he can easily spend hours doing it without realizing that time has past, and sometimes results in him needing to be told off at three in the morning on a school night because he just didn't think it was that late.
He was pretty young when he realized that he wasn't really interested in other girls as most of his friends seemed to be, and soon that translated into the knowledge that he was actually attracted to other boys. He told Lexie right away, but it did take him a few more years to come out to the rest of the family, not so much for fear of judgment but just from the unknown of how they might react. He's not exactly out and proud at school, although he's not closeted either nor is he uncomfortable with who he is, it's just not something he feels that everyone needs to know - after all, straight people don't have to inform other people that they're straight, so he doesn't see why he should be telling everyone and anyone he's gay just because. In his sophomore year, he started growing closer and closer to a newcomer at the school, and they've now been dating for a few months, although it's something they're both new at so they've been taking it slowly.
LIKES AND DISLIKES
Jason's favorite color is red, and he's not a fan of beige. He loves winter, and could do without spring. He's a cat person, but hates rodents. He could eat lasagna any day of the week, and he craves fudge most often, but he hardly ever eats hot dogs, and dislikes kiwi. He's not a juice drinker, he much prefers water. He loves to read and write, but dislikes speaking in public. His best subject in school is English Lit, and his worst is Debate.
APPEARANCE
Even though he's about halfway through his teenage years, Jason undoubtedly still has a bit of a baby face on him, which often makes people mistake him for younger than he actually is. It doesn't help that he's not very tall, standing merely at 5'7, and at this point there's not much hope that he'll grow any taller, but he's not too insecure about his height or his looks in general. There's no hard lines or sharp edges to him, having rather soft features, with a slightly rounded jawline, a nose that's just a bit wider than average and a pronounced dimple in his right cheek. His blue-green eyes are a bit on the small side as are his lips, and he keeps his dark blonde hair on the short side, and he does try to style it in a way that keeps it out of his face. He wouldn't say he gives his wardrobe a lot of thought, but he does prefer to have clothes that are nicely fitted to his slim built rather than too baggy. He's admittedly not very active, although lucky for him he doesn't need to be to avoid gaining weight - so far - and he usually figures gym class is enough for him without needing to add extra exercise in his daily routine.
FAMILY DYNAMICS
Jason feels he has a good relationship with his parents, but it's also nothing out of the ordinary. He trusts them to keep him safe and he shows them respect and appreciation for all they do for him, but they're not necessarily the people he'll go to first for any advice. Of course, he knows they have more experience with the world than he or any of his friends do, but at the same time, they're not teenagers anymore, and whatever they remember of their high school years doesn't necessarily give them a perfect grasp on what it's like to be a teenager today. Nonetheless, he does enjoy spending time with them once in a while, although more in a family setting than anything else - movie or game nights, for instance, are always fun for him, and ultimately, he is very aware that he is extremely lucky to have a father and mother who love and accept him for who he is, and that he knows he can rely on if he's ever in a tough spot.
He gets along fairly well with Austin, although they've not particularly close either, but they also rarely get into arguments or fight in spite of the fact that they have such different personalities. He does appreciate that, even though the other guy is older than him and as such the 'big brother', he doesn't ever act like he has more authority than him. He does sometimes feel like Austin could use a bit more maturity at times, but then his brother seems happy with the direction his life is taking so he figures it's none of his business. His bond with Lexie is a lot closer, and she's been his best friend pretty much since birth. Their emotions are sometimes intricately intermingled, not necessarily in the way people sometimes think twins can share thoughts or the likes, but more in the sense that he can't stand to see his sister in any kind of distress. As children, their parents were sometimes concerned they would become too dependent on the other, but they've grown into their own person with their own circles. Even so, there is very little Jason wouldn't do for Lexie.
