Eric dropped his head into his hands as, for what seemed like the hundredth time this evening, Brendon started going off about Lacie and her new boyfriend. The problem didn't even seem to be that the other girl had a boyfriend at all. As it was, he didn't feel like there had been any clear indication that the Hawaiian native was officially dating the guy versus just having gone on a couple of dates with him. No, the problem was that Lacie, unlike his brother, wasn't one to grossly overshare, and therefore Brendon didn't know what this guy's deal was, or if he was better than him. And when he brought that point up yet another time, Eric strongly regretted inviting his brother over for dinner, although Ivy seemed to be enjoying herself hugely right now. "I'm sure he's not as annoying as you are, does that count?" he asked wryly, taking a bite of his food and noting that Brendon had barely made a dent in his own plate with how much time he'd spent talking about this so far.

Brendon had accepted the invitation to tea at his brother's flat without any reservations. It was strange how little he saw Eric now that he'd moved out. It wasn't like he was a stranger or anything, it was just that living apart actually did mean seeing each other less. He did tease his brother mercilessly about the cat that lived there, strutting about the place as if he was the owner and receiving lots of smiles and kisses from Ivy. When it came time to actually eat though, Ivy had mentioned something about Hawaii and of course that brought up the subject of Lacie and that brought up the subject of Lacie's new boyfriend - of whom he was not a fan. Of course, he didn't really know the other guy, but that was an even bigger problem. Eric did not seem to be sympathetic toward his problem. "Eric, be serious here!" he exclaimed. "This is a real problem! Who knows how cool this guy really is. Not me! No, how am I supposed to know anything at this point when there's next to nothing shown about him online?" If he could just find out that the guy wasn't that great he'd have some piece of mind.
"You know, you do have a girlfriend," Ivy pointed out over her glass of wine. She had a slight smile on her face.
"That's not the point here!" he said, wondering why she kept going back to the fact that he was dating Nicole. It didn't have anything to do with Lacie or her mystery boyfriend. "Why do you keep pointing that out?"
"Why do you care so much about it when you have your own girlfriend?" she questioned back.
"Why can't I? I just want to know if he's cooler than me or not," he replied. "That's the question here. Is he cooler than me?"
"He's cuter than you," she answered easily, taking a drink from her glass. "But again, why do you care if her boyfriend is cuter and cooler than you?"
He gave a disbelieving look at Ivy. Why did his brother love this girl so much? She was just being rude right now. And seemed to be highly amused at his worries. Maybe this is why Eric loved her so much, the both of them were hopeless and helpless. "Why did you pick someone so rude?" he asked, turning his attention to his brother.

Although he was trying not to put too much weight into his brother's antics - because really, if he did, that was all he would do, all day, every day - Eric could tell that this situation was different than any Brendon had ever been in before. He didn't think the other guy had taken the time to really fully evaluate how he truly felt about Lacie, because the distance didn't really allow for much at all. Shaking his head a bit as Brendon asked him to be serious and claimed that this all was a real problem, because honestly, the bottom line was that he was jealous of this guy and there wasn't much to be done about it. Watching the interaction that followed between his girlfriend and his brother, unable to hold back a bit of a smile at the way she basically grilled him on why he cared so much, noting that Brendon seemed to refuse to give an actual answer to that question. "So many reasons," he said simply when the attention was turned back to him and he was asked why he'd picked someone so rude to date. "Some of which you don't want to hear about. Can you just eat your food for a minute and stop talking about Lacie?"

Brendon rolled his eyes a little as Eric answered his question by saying that he had so many reasons why he had picked Ivy and that there were reasons he didn't want to hear about. He was well aware that his brother had a very physical relationship with his girlfriend and no one was surprised by it because she was pretty hot. "Okay, you make it sound like the only thing I've done since I've gotten here is talk about Lacie," he said, which was not the case. Not that he thought so anyway. He'd talked about other things. He took a big bite of his food to show Eric that he was eating too, since his plate was actually fairly full. That was unrelated to anything else though. "And, I was letting it cool."
"Yeah, honey, he's right, he's not talked about Lacie this whole time," Ivy said, her serious tone making Brendon slightly suspicious. He was waiting for the other shoe to drop here because there was no way she was just being helpful. It wasn't her m.o. "He's mostly been talking about Jayden. Who just happens to be dating Lacie and that's a completely different thing."
He threw an unimpressed look toward his brother's girlfriend and swallowed his food. "You two are the worst. I was hoping someone here would be sympathetic, but neither of you are being at all sympathetic," he informed them, a tad grumpy at being mad fun of over this. Why was everyone being so unhelpful here? And at home? Just everywhere. One would think somewhere he'd find a friendly ear, but he was striking out. "You're both as bad as Marissa."

Eric could only give Brendon a slightly unimpressed look as he said that he was making it sound like the only thing he'd done since getting here was talk about Lacie, because that was basically what it was. He couldn't think of very many things his brother had said since his arrival at his flat that hadn't somehow had something to do with the Hawaiian. "Sure, cool til it's just plain cold," he said with a shake of his head, raising an eyebrow slightly as he heard Ivy speak up to say that Brendon had not actually talked about Lacie this whole time. Having to keep himself from laughing as she continued to say he'd mostly been talking about Jayden. "It's hard to be sympathetic when you're just saying you want to know if this guy is better than you," Eric pointed out. "It just kinda makes you sound like a tool. Like, just because you were with this girl a couple of times, now she doesn't have the right to date someone she likes better than you, even though you have no plans of actually dating her," he went on, tilting his head a bit. "If she's your friend, just your friend, shouldn't you be happy for her finding a great guy?"

It really shouldn't have come as a surprise that Eric wasn't being very helpful. He'd only ever had eyes for Ivy and he'd lucked out with that working out way before anyone could have anticipated how hot she'd be. He gave a look though as Eric went on to say that he was being a tool and that he should be happy if Lacie had found a great guy because that was what friends would do. "Okay, you're being rude again," he told his brother. "And it's not that. It's just like, important for me to know if he's better than me. I want her to find a good guy, I just don't want him to be better than me. It's not like Nicole is better than her." At that remark he heard Ivy draw in a breath and let it out in a chuckle, but when he looked over at her she was taking another drink out of her wine. Apparently, this was something that she wasn't going to say anything about for the time being. "What? I'm just being honest here." Nicole was great, he liked her a lot, but she wasn't Lacie in terms of well.. pretty much everything, actually.

Eric couldn't help but give Brendon a bit of a stare as he straight up admitted that he didn't consider Nicole to be better than Lacie, which he was pretty sure the other girl wouldn't view too kindly if she were to find out. Then again, it wasn't like anyone had expected that relationship to last in the first place. Still, he had a hard time believing that his brother couldn't see this for what it was - or well, maybe not that hard a time after all. Brendon had never been the serious type, and even in past relationships he'd been in that had been more than just a hook up, there'd always seemed to be a sense of casual and easygoing to it all. "That makes no sense," he informed the other guy with a shake of his head, though he decided not to address the comparison between Lacie and Nicole, and instead focused on the first matter at hand. "Either you want her to be happy with a great guy, or you want her to have had her best experience with a guy at the age of seventeen and never progress past that. And the latter isn't exactly good friend material," he pointed out.

It shouldn't have come to a surprise that Eric clearly didn't understand what Brendon was talking about. Eric had been head over heels for Ivy pretty much from the second that she'd first smiled at him and never looked back. It was easy for him to sit in judgment here, never knowing what it was like to be in such a situation. So he just gave a deep sigh as Eric tried to explain his point of view here, figuring that his brother was officially a lost cause and he shouldn't waste any more time trying to get him to understand. "There are shades of grey here that you're missing," he said with a shake of his head. "Even though you don't seem to see them."
"I see them," Ivy mentioned, then paused for effect. "I still think you're not doing right by either of these girls."
"Of course you don't," he answered. "Fine though. I give up. I'll eat in silence and you two can do whatever it is that you always do."
"Don't be ridiculous, we can't do that with you right here," Ivy answered, her tone teasing. "But really, Brendon. If you weren't you and Nicole was Cora, and there was some other guy involved, I bet you'd have a different point of view on this whole matter."
"Ugh, the both of you are insufferable," he said, glaring across the table and taking a large bite of his food. "Now I want to change the subject."

Ivy really wondered what Brendon's game was in the long run. It was obvious to anyone with eyes that he was so desperately into Lacie, but not willing to pursue anything. It made her wonder if Lacie had been purposefully withholding information from Brendon just because she knew that it would drive him crazy. If that was the case, she had to applaud the younger woman because she knew what she was doing on that front. She'd have to message the Hawaiian to ask about that later. For now she gave an exaggerated wink as Brendon called her insufferable and finally started to eat his food. To be honest, she knew that Eric was more than ready to change the subject too, so she figured that for now she'd go ahead and let the subject drop. After all, it seemed that this would not be the last that they'd hear on the topic of Lacie, or on the topic of Lacie's new boyfriend. "Okay, we can drop it. Tell us about how your plans for your gap year are coming along then," she suggested, knowing that he'd started looking into where he was going to stay recently. Brendon took the out, starting to describe the type of places he was managing to find thus far and starting to detail what sort of plan he was having about his trip around Australia.
