Marcus gave Kaitlyn a look as she finished explaining her plan on how to help Evelina get a guy. It wasn't that he didn't think Kaitlyn was more than capable of getting a guy to notice her. The problem was that he was pretty sure that all the guys were just going to go and be interested in Kaitlyn and that wasn't going to help Evelina feel any better than she did now. Plus, her methods didn't seem like they were going to be all that discerning. "I really don't think you need to be meddling into her love life," he told Kaitlyn firmly. In his own opinion Evelina was mostly doing fine, sometimes she seemed a bit lonely, but he thought that was more to do with the fact that she didn't have as many close friends as she could. Plus, she devoted a lot of her time to Amelia, so it made sense. If she wanted to see someone she would be looking to do so. "Nor do I think you've actually come up with that good of a plan. You're going to go out, looking like you always do and expect to get a guy interested in Evelina? I mean, she's beautiful and all too but, Kaitlyn, you are not the kind of person that people forget. They're going to zero in on you and you'll have to spend the whole night dealing with everyone trying to get into your dress instead of helping anyone get interested in Evelina."

Kaitlyn hadn't specifically thought Marcus needed much of a heads up as far as her plan with Evelina went. As far as she was concerned, her boyfriend was far too protective of his best friend, and it seemed to be hindering her chances of finding someone. Not that she thought he specifically went out of his way to keep her from meeting a guy, but he definitely enabled her when she said she she could stay single for the foreseeable future. Which, sure, she could, but the point of the matter was that she didn't need to, and she shouldn't. At some point though, it had come out in the open - probably about the time that Evelina had asked him to babysit Amelia - and thus the need for more information had arose.
She had to keep herself from rolling her eyes as he told her she shouldn't meddle with Evelina's love life, giving him a bit of a look though when he went on to say her plan wasn't good. "Okay, first of all, Evelina doesn't have a love life, she has a very noted lack of love life, and someone should meddle with it," she told him, showing no sign that anything he'd just said had weakened her resolve, because it hadn't. "And you're too short sighted," she went on as she climbed onto his lap. "Me being me is the perfect plan," she continued on with a light toss of her head. "I'm not just gonna throw Evelina into the bullpen. I'm gonna be the first line of defense. If a guy can't treat me like a human being because I look hot, he's obviously out. If he tries to grab me, can't be bothered to look at my face for more than a split second, makes inappropriate comments, he's not going near Evelina," she spoke. "I'm not gonna try to take a guy out on the dance floor, I don't plan on testing his moves for her," she added with a roll of her eyes. "Once I make sure the guy is nice, has manners, and doesn't send off creepy vibes, I'm gonna fade to the background. And at that point, any guy with eyes should be more than happy to turn his attention to Evelina. Besides, all I can do is get her to talk to guys," she pointed out to him. "I can't force her to leave with anyone and get laid. If she gets to that point, it's because she wants to."

Marcus gave his girlfriend an unimpressed look as she said that someone should meddle with Evelina's lack of a love life, not wrapping his arms around her when she climbed into his lap as a mark of how unimpressed he was with her response. Her logic, although solid, did not make him feel any better because she was basically just saying that she was going to interact with all the douche bags as a way to weed them out. Her way of trying to sell the idea to him wasn't working though, even after she added that she wasn't going to be the one that danced with any guys or forced Evelina to leave with someone. "So, to be clear, you're telling me not to worry because it's just my girlfriend that will be interacting with a bunch of creepy dudes and trying to see if they care going to be able to behave themselves?" There was a dryness to his tone that wasn't often present. "You're right, I feel much better about everything now. I have to worry about Evelina picking up a stalker and you picking up one after you turn down some creep. I feel much better."

Kaitlyn was still somewhat getting used to Marcus referring to her as his girlfriend at times, the word still sounding a bit foreign to her ears, but with a nice ring to it. She hadn't set out for things to get serious with the PhD student, but at some point they just had. And serious wasn't really her thing, at least not normally, but being with him, she didn't really feel like she was missing out on anything. Not missing the way he didn't try to pull her in or hold her after she'd moved to his lap, indicating that he wasn't about to give in to her that easily, but that wasn't a deterrent to her. She couldn't help but give a soft laugh as he voiced his concern, not meaning to mock him, but wondering idly if he didn't realize what her reality was. "Marcus, I don't need to be trying to set someone up with Evelina to be at risk of that," she pointed out. "And what am I supposed to do then? Stay in all the time? What's Evelina supposed to do, stay celibate until Amelia is off to college? Creepy guys happen. That's not gonna stop me from living my life," she went on. "I'm not gonna stop myself from dressing up in a way that makes me feel sexy and good about myself, just because some asshole might see it as an invitation to help himself to my body. And Evelina shouldn't settle for loneliness because she has a child. You get that, don't you?" she asked, moving to take his face between her hands.

It wasn't any better for Marcus as Kaitlyn explained that she always had these risks in her life and that the only way to avoid them would be to stay in all the time. On one hand, he understood what she was saying and the point that she was making was plenty valid. On the other hand, just because that was the case didn't mean that he liked it nor did he want to sign off on what seemed like a plan that could put two of the people he cared about most into any compromising situations. Her last question made him sigh as he looked back at her, reluctantly giving a nod. "I don't want her to be lonely," he agreed. Though he didn't really think of Evelina as lonely, maybe because in the existence that he saw her lead she wasn't all that lonely. "I still don't like it though. I wish I could be there, in case anyone gets the wrong idea and needs a little extra motivation to move along." Kaitlyn had strictly prohibited his presence though and no matter how much he'd tried to appeal, she stayed stubborn on her front that he would not be helpful.

Kaitlyn could tell that Marcus was beginning to give in to her point of view, although it was also obvious that he still wasn't happy about it. Tilting her head a bit as he went on to say that he wished he could be there, just in case anyone needed a little bit more motivation to move along, raising an eyebrow slightly as she ran her hands lightly along his chest. "I know, you're the big strong protector," she told him, her tone a bit teasing as her fingers slid under the front of his shirt. "But how am I supposed to properly play the part that I need to play, when there's gonna be a hot guy standing right there?" she went on, moving to trail light kisses along his jawline. "You think I'd be able to keep myself off of you all evening?" she questioned a bit tauntingly, her lips moving a bit further down the side of his neck. "I need to be on top of my game. You would just be a distraction," she spoke as her fingers ever so slightly brushed against his stomach, moving her lips back up as she pressed a light kiss to the corner of his mouth. "And I can't have that now, can I? Not when I'm trying to make sure I'm setting Evelina up with a good guy?"

Marcus was trying very hard not to just give into Kaitlyn the second that she started making good points because it wasn't good for her to always get what she wanted out of him so easily. It didn't help though as she started to run her hands down his chest, his body feeling a bit lighter in the places that she touched and when she mentioned that she wouldn't be able to play the part she needed to when there'd be a hot guy standing there. She was good though, causing his hands to twitch toward her as she brushed her hands against his stomach as continued trailing her kisses down the side of his neck. "I think you'd manage," he answered, trying to keep his tone as even as before although he was fairly certain an edge crept into it that he couldn't keep away. "You've got the sort of determination that could bring down cities if you wanted to." And the kind of looks that could cause anyone to go ahead and follow her into the fire of such a decision. "You know I trust you, Kait. You're the only one I could trust to look out for Evelina but that doesn't make me any less apprehensive."

In spite of the fact that he had a pretty rocking body, Kaitlyn knew Marcus wasn't made of stone, and although he still seemed intent in not giving in to her yet, she could feel his resolve weakening with every strategic kiss and brush of her fingers. It was even more clear as he spoke, his voice not quite as steady as she was sure he would like it to be, giving a bit of a smile as he stated that she had the sort of determination that could bring down cities. Pulling away slightly though as he went on to say that he trusted her, and that he was actually the only one he could trust to look out for Evelina, finding her own resolve in breaking him fading a bit. The words were seemingly so simple, but she knew how much Evelina meant to him, and she knew that trust was a big thing for him as well. Still, she wasn't entirely sure why they affected her so much, making her stomach a bit fluttery as her hand moved back up to his cheek, her fingers lightly running along his skin. "I know you will," she told him, pressing a kiss to his lips, keeping the touch soft and slow. "Just give it a chance, though," she spoke quietly, tilting her head slightly.

Marcus was glad that Kaitlyn at least seemed to realize that he wasn't likely to stop worrying about Evelina. She was his best friend and he felt bad enough from not being able to protect her from her ex. He wasn't about to let anything like that happen to her again on his watch. Even if Kaitlyn thought that he was being too much, she accepted that it was going to be the way that things were anyway. He did return the kiss that she gave, wanting to keep her close even when she pulled away slightly. "I'll do my best," he answered, his own voice quiet as she asked him to give it a chance. The night of at least he'd have Amelia to keep him busy for a little while and that would keep his mind off of the fact that things could be setting up to go very badly for Evelina. He leaned forward to press a light kiss against the side of her neck. "Don't give up on me when it's still not the best though."

Kaitlyn gave a smile as Marcus said that he would do his best, shivering a bit from the light kiss he pressed to the side of her neck, moving her fingers up to lightly run through his hair. Shaking her head slightly though as he then asked her not to give up on him when his best still wasn't actually the best, looking at him. "Well, you can't be the best at everything," she taunted a bit, her hands moving down his chest, slipping her fingers underneath his shirt as she lightly brushed them against his skin. She figured there would be nothing to do but wait and see how the evening went anyhow. He might be worried for nothing - she might not even manage to find a suitable match for Evelina that night, or the other girl might not be into anyone she brought her way. And even if she was, it didn't mean she would actually decide to leave the club with that guy. "But I think for now, I should take your mind off of it," she went on, her fingers slipping down to the hem of his pants, working at the button and zipper. "No point in worrying about it until it's actually happening," she pointed out, trailing kisses down his neck as she started moving herself off of his lap. Figuring that if keeping these things off of his mind wasn't something he was the best off, she might as well help him out a bit with something she was pretty damn good at.

There wasn't a way for Marcus to stop the slight smile that came as Kaitlyn told him that he couldn't be the best at everything and slipped her hands under his shirt. He knew that he certainly wasn't the best at even most things, but she tended to think him a lot better than he actually was. It was sometimes a nice ego boast and sometimes just a bit silly that she thought so highly of him without any real basis for it that he could find. As she continued though to say that that she should take his mind off of it he was certainly on board with her manner of thinking, shifting his arms slightly so that she could get at the button and zipper of his pants a bit easier. "You're very smart," he told her as he moved his hands down her body and reached to pull off her top. There'd be plenty of time for him to worry later and he was quite sure that he would do no small amount of it when the day actually arrived. For now though, he'd allow himself to enjoy his girlfriend and try not to focus on what the future might hold.
