night dress
It was a little later than usual when Andrea woke up on Saturday morning, which could be due to the fact that she had gone to bed later than normal the previous evening - and had been woken up by a slightly tipsy Heather coming back at half past one, at which time she'd knocked over a lamp. Though, her shushing said lamp had been louder than the actual knocking over action, which probably went to say that she'd been a little more than just slightly tipsy. She'd managed to go back to sleep not too long after that though, but it was still almost nine thirty by the time she woke up and got out of bed. Starting up her Saturday morning routine the same as usual as she headed over to the kitchen and got stuff out to make some pancakes. She usually made them a bit more health conscious, with wheat flour rather than white, but Heather happily ate them no matter what once she slathered butter and syrup or chocolate sauce on them. She was in the process of whisking up everything while the stove heated up when her roommate came out of her room, sheet marks still pressed into her cheeks, a bit of makeup residue visible under her eyes. "Morning sunshine," she greeted her a bit teasingly as she ladled some pancake batter onto the pan.

shirt . pajama pantsHeather had had a pretty awesome night. She knew some people got judgmental about people who drank, or who got drunk, but she didn't let that bother her. She was still young, she had plenty of time to develop a more responsible demeanor, so in the meantime, if she wanted to party up her college years, she would do so without the slightly bit of remorse. Well, except this morning, she did feel a bit crappy and hungover, but that was unusual. She generally followed the no mixing rule, so going out the evening before, she'd started up with vodka based drinks. But then, things had gotten a bit more interesting, and people had started offering rounds - and who was she to turn down tequila shots? A dumbass was the first answer on her mind as she woke up to a pounding headache, but overall, she'd had a blast. It took her a few minutes to drag herself out of bed, motivation definitely kicking in a bit more as she heard Andrea working in the kitchen, meaning Saturday morning pancakes were in the work, and even her hungover stomach wasn't into the idea of turning down her roommate's pancakes. Getting up, she grabbed some pajamas and threw them on, running a hand through her messy hair and heading out to the living room and kitchen area, giving a yawn and throwing a slightly unimpressed look at Andrea at the way she greeted her. "Shut up and feed me," she groaned lightly as she dragged her feet to the bathroom, grabbing the bottle of advil and downing a couple with a few drinks of water directly from the tap. Hastily wiping away the makeup residue under her eyes before heading back to the kitchen and allowing herself to fall seated on one of the stools they kept by the counter. "You should have come out last night, it was awesome," she told her matter of factly, in spite of the fact that she probably wasn't looking like proof of it.

Andrea rolled her eyes playfully in response to Heather's own greeting, flipping the pancake once it wasn't bubbling anymore, letting the other side cook for a couple more minutes before double checking that the bottom was just as perfectly brown as the top, taking it out of the pan and placing it in a plate before setting it down in front of her roommate, who had just rejoined her in the kitchen. Shaking her head a bit at Heather's comment as she ladled some more batter in the pan before pulling out the butter, syrup and other various toppings from the fridge and cupboards. Considering the company she'd decided to keep the evening before, Andrea was pretty damn sure she'd been better off staying home. The thought of which brought back a slight wave of annoyance, but she pushed it aside as she flipped the second pancake. "I'm sure it was for you, but I'm not entirely sure I would have had such a blast," she said with a light shrug. Which, she didn't typically drink quite as much as Heather, but she enjoyed going out with the other girl. She definitely knew how to be the life of the party.

Heather sighed in relief as Andrea placed a pancake down in front of her and gathered toppings next, her stomach grumbling as she quickly started spreading butter atop it, the warmth still radiating from the breakfast treat making it melt almost instantly. Hesitating briefly between the butter pecan syrup and the hazelnut spread before going for the first option, pouring a generous amount onto her pancake. She had to hand it to Andrea - she didn't know how the other girl managed it, but even though she always went for healthy stuff, she made it taste awesome. Heather had always been in the opinion that wheat pancakes tasted like cardboard, but although she could go a little overboard with her toppings, it really didn't go to say anything about the other girl's pancakes. They were delicious even without anything on them, and that was saying something. Raising an eyebrow slightly as she listened to the other girl's response to her saying she should have come out, rolling her eyes because she knew what this was about. "Well, you better not let Zane's presence keep you from coming out anymore, because if I have to tie you up and drag you out, you know I will," she threatened before chomping down on a mouthful of pancake. "Besides," she went on, bringing her hand up in front of her mouth as she spoke while chewing. "I'm planning on inviting him for my birthday bash, so you'll have to deal with it then anyway."

Andrea had been pretty hopeful that Heather wouldn't push on the issue, but she should have known that the other girl would be aware of at least part of the argument that had gone down the evening before while she was at work. After all, she'd found Zane waiting out in the hallway, or wherever it was he'd been waiting, and the other girl had never been known for putting a stop to her curiosity. Which made it a mystery still that the other guy even indulged in her roommate's presence. She couldn't know how much he'd shared though, and all things considered it's be a little hypocritical of him to start babbling about their conversation when he'd been all up on her case about all things personal, but she didn't plan on asking Heather just what she knew either. Clearly, she knew enough, and she had to hold back a groan as she pointed out that he would be there for her birthday, which would be coming along within a few weeks. "Oh well, there'll be enough people around that I won't have to interact with him," she said with a light shrug, finishing up the last of the pancake batter before putting the bowl in the sink, adding the last pancake to the short pile she'd placed on another plate and putting it on the counter so Heather could grab her next one once she'd be done with the first. Spreading just a bit of hazelnut spread on her own before taking her first bite. "Besides, it's his own fault he got kicked out," she couldn't help but add in a mumble.

Heather had never been quite as surprised as when she'd come home from work the evening before and had found Zane sitting out in the staircase. At first she'd thought maybe Andrea had gone to run some errands, or maybe she'd been in the shower when he'd knocked, but he'd soon informed her that he had actually been let in by her roommate only to get kicked out. That in itself had been a shock, because Andrea was typically so even tempered and friendly that all the people she invited over tended to comment on what a sweetheart she was. She'd even made breakfast for some of her hook ups in the past who had spent the night, because she knew that she wasn't above kicking a guy out of her bed if he turned out to be bad in bed, or if she didn't feel like waking up next to him in the morning. "No but seriously, what happened? He just said you guys had an argument and then you kicked him out," she said, not one to hold back on questioning her roommate. She knew better with Zane by now, so she hadn't pushed it, but now that she was with Andrea, she wanted to know what the whole deal had been about.

It was pretty much to be expected that Heather would want to know more about what had happened. After all, since they'd started living together, she'd never had a single issue with anybody she brought home, and she had a pretty wide variety of friends and hook ups. Zane had just so happened to very expertly push some buttons she didn't even know she had, maybe because she knew he had a point as to what he was saying, but he way he'd said it and the way he'd talked about her own actions, as if he had any insight on it at all, had made her even more mad about the fact that there was some truth to his statement. And be the case that may, it also didn't mean she did things wrong or was a bad person for the way she got to know people. Clearly, it succeeded more often than it failed. Shaking her head as Heather did ask what had happened, rolling her eyes at the way it'd been presented. Like she'd just kicked him out because of an argument, and not his behavior during said argument. "Let it go, Heather, I'm really not in the mood to talk it over," she told the other girl with a light frown. "Besides, I'm not gonna give him the satisfaction of being the one to blab about it," she added, getting up from her seat and taking her coffee bag out, measuring the right amount before putting it to brew.

It had happened once to Heather that she'd butted heads a bit with Zane. She'd been blunt and nosy about some stuff, he'd called her out on it, she'd apologized and they'd moved on. Since then, everything had gone by swimmingly, because she didn't push him quite as much anymore, and he mostly indulged her bluntness so long as it wasn't too much of a sensitive issue. Besides, she was well aware of her faults, and maybe the biggest one of all was that she wasn't working to correct them, but nobody was perfect and she was happy with herself the way she was. Of course, she didn't take pleasure out of offending people, but keeping her mouth shut was a lost cause. Propping her elbows up on the counter once she'd finished her first pancake, waiting to grab a second one as Andrea started getting coffee ready, resting her chin in her palms as she heard what the other girl had to say. Obviously not satisfied with her answer though, but the second part of it was actually a bit more revealing to her, and enough to motivate her to keep investigating. "Did you ask him a personal question? He's not a fan of personal questions," she spoke matter of factly. Which wasn't a hundred percent true - he just wasn't a fan of them when there was no indicator that it was okay to ask them, whether it was or not. By now, the only things Heather had noted were off the table for discussion were family and money matters.

Andrea kept her attention focused on the coffee as it slowly brewed, regretting measuring enough that she'd be offering Heather some as well though once the other girl started speaking about the issue again. Overall, not surprised that the other girl didn't have too hard a time guessing part of the issue from the previous evening, because if Zane was so offended by personal questions being asked without an explicit permission or opening as he put it, then chances that Heather had gotten herself in a similar situation were of about a hundred and ten percent. Rolling her eyes though at her matter of fact statement that the other guy didn't like personal questions, shaking her head a bit. "Thanks Heather, that's extremely useful information right now," she told her a bit sarcastically. "He was rude and arrogant about the whole thing. Just because I don't handle situations the same way he does, it doesn't mean he's right about it all and I'm wrong," she added with a frown before giving a light sigh and glancing back at the other girl. "Am I wrong? It is wrong to want to get to know other people and ask questions about some things that can be more personal before they've brought the subject up themselves?" she asked. "Do you think I've made a lot of people uncomfortable or awkward?" she went on, admittedly a bit concerned about it.

Heather raised an eyebrow slightly at the sarcastic and slightly snappy tone her roommate used in response to her statement, because that was another thing that wasn't exactly common. Honestly, she didn't know why in the world she was getting herself so worked up about this, and why things had escalated to the point of Zane getting kicked out. So they didn't see eye to eye on a matter, big deal. Listening as Andrea went on to say how the other guy had been rude and arrogant about the whole ordeal, shaking her head a bit as she added that he wasn't right and she wasn't wrong just because she handled thing differently than she did. The actual issue making itself known in what she said next though, and Heather had to keep herself from rolling her eyes. From the moment she'd met Andrea at work, Heather had known she'd like her - the other girl was like a ball of sunshine wrapped up in rainbows, and she mothered and cared for everyone she knew. Of course it would worry her to think she may have approached things in a way that would have hurt other people's feelings, and ultimately she'd gotten defensive about it, because she didn't want to think of it as true. "Doll, I'm so not someone to judge right now," she told her. "I mean, is he wrong? A bit, but not a hundred percent. The guy doesn't know you, but yeah, there's some stuff he doesn't like to share about himself on first meetings, and he's not the only person in the world. You and me, we're open books, though from vastly different genres," she went on a bit teasingly. "Everyone handles things differently. I don't think you're wrong for wanting to get to know people when you meet them. Are some of them gonna find some of your questions invasive and get uncomfortable? Probably," she admitted.

Andrea loved making friends. She loved getting to know people, she loved learning about them and making connections. She loved conversing with strangers about anything they wanted to talk about - one of her favorite customers at work came in every Wednesday night she worked, because she knew it would be quiet, and sometimes spent hours just chatting her up, telling her about the way things had been when she'd been growing up, about her late husband, about her kids and her grandkids. She was just a people person, and she'd always felt the way she was made her easily approachable for people who wanted to talk. Now she couldn't help but try and go through random encounters in her mind and wonder if she'd ever hurt someone. Hearing Heather's response was only somewhat comforting, but ultimately the point at the end of the day was the same as what Zane had brought up. "I just, I don't know how not to ask people questions. I don't try to be invasive, and I don't usually go straight for the most personal aspect of people's lives," she said as she poured a couple of cups of coffee, taking out both Heather's flavored creamer and her almond milk to pour in each respective cup before putting them back in the fridge and taking her seat back next to her roommate. "And I mean, I get it, I did ask him a personal question. I asked if you guys were going on a date," she admitted. "But it didn't seem like that big a deal, and he made me feel like a terrible person for asking."

Heather gladly grabbed the handed cup of coffee from Andrea as she went on talking, taking a sip of it and trying to feel the caffeine entering her bloodstream - which probably wasn't doable, but it didn't hurt to try. She gave a light shrug though as Andrea mentioned the question she had asked Zane, which had started up the whole thing apparently, because it just wasn't the kind of thing she would have worried herself over. Did that mean she didn't care that much about other people? Maybe. But she just wasn't the kind of person to care about every single person she encountered in life. She cared about her friends, she cared about her family. She didn't purposely go out of her way to ruin other people's lives, but she also didn't let their personal preferences affect her own. Clearly, Andrea was already a step higher than herself in terms of being a good person for even worrying about this. "I don't think you should lose some sleep over this. No matter what you do in life, you're gonna end up offending or hurting some people. People are made of different molds and have different opinions and outlooks on life," she pointed out. "When we met, I thought you were the cutest thing. You asked me stuff and you were genuinely interested in the answer. It made me want to be friends with you. Some people are gonna react like me, others are gonna react like Zane. You can't please everybody Andrea," she told her. "You just gotta accept that if you do you, maybe sometimes it's gonna go off course. You're not a terrible person. Nor do I think Zane was trying to imply that, either," she concluded, taking another sip of coffee.

Andrea liked having a person like Heather in her life. Of course, she'd never lacked friendship or people to be close to in life, and she'd been lucky enough to have amazing little sisters whom she'd been close to all her life. However, in matters like these, she didn't typically go to either Emily or Karen for advice. For the most part, she already knew what they were gonna say, and she especially didn't want to make Em feel conflicted between saying something that she wanted to hear versus saying what she thought. Heather was a no nonsense kind of person like Karen, but she was also a bit more impartial. She gave a light smile as her roommate spoke her opinion on the matter, though she shook her head a bit as she went on to add she didn't think Zane had tried to imply she was a terrible person. "I don't care. Besides, there's really no point in talking about him anymore. Just give me a warning whenever you invite him over, I'll make sure to be out of the way," she told her in a tone that clearly said the topic was off subject as of right now. "Now, what are you in the mood for for dinner? I saw the grocery store has a sale on salmon, so I was gonna go do some shopping today," she spoke, make the change of subject official as she finished up her pancake, getting up to get started on the dishes.

It was a bit of a relief for Heather to see Andrea's mood start to change for the better as she spoke. Making a slight face as she shook her head though to her response as far as Zane was concerned, but knowing from the way she spoke and how she right away changed the subject that she was officially and irrevocably done with the subject for the time being. And she would respect her roommate's request to give her a warning whenever she invited Zane over, at least to the best of her ability, because Andrea had always been respectful of her own preferences as far as their shared living arrangements went, not to mention she had to be one of the most easy going roommates she could have ever gotten. "Salmon sounds awesome, so long as it's cooked," she told her as she finished up her second helping of pancakes in a couple of horrendously big bites so she could get up and get to the sink before her roommate, gently pushing her out of the way. That was literally the way things were with the two of them - she had to beat Andrea to doing something around the place. Honestly, it was a surprise sometimes that the other girl didn't tidy up her bedroom while she was out. "I'll go shopping with you though, I'm running low on some stuff, and you'll need help with the bags anyway," she added.

In spite of Heather stealing dishes duty, Andrea still took the time to put everything else away that needed to be put away while her roommate started filling up the sink, nodding as she said that salmon was fine for dinner so long as it was cooked, playfully rolling her eyes. Once, she'd tried to feed her smoked salmon with bagels for breakfast. It had not gone well. "It's not that kind of salmon Heather," she said teasingly. "But yes, it will be cooked," she promised as she wiped down the counter. Raising an eyebrow as she then added that she wanted to go shopping with her as she was running low on some stuff, figuring she'd have to clear a wider gap of time in her afternoon for groceries since going with her roommate was usually sure to double the trip in time, but to be fair, it also made it a lot more entertaining. "Alright. I'm gonna go shower now then, and I've got to put a load in the wash, but we can go once you're ready," she told her. Making her way over to her bedroom so she could get her clothes ready for the day, next heading to the bathroom and starting up the shower. Allowing herself to relax and breath deep as she stepped in, wrapping her arms around herself and closing her eyes. Figuring she'd probably just have to go by Heather's advice, but still hoping the occasions of coming across Zane would be very infrequent in the future.
