The Homecoming dance had gone better than even Christopher had expected. Not that he'd expected it to go badly, but for one thing it was a Homecoming dance. They weren't exactly known as the most fun events around. And for another, he'd recognized the possibility that he and Eloise might not have had the best time together no matter what they were doing. After all, they barely knew one another. However, throughout the night they'd talked some, shared some dances, and gotten to know one another a bit more. Overall, he was pretty sure that they'd both had a good time and he was even a bit disappointed when it was announced that the dance was coming to an end. "I guess we'd better get going," he suggested after the last song had finished, waiting for her to go and grab her jacket before heading out with her. "I can walk you back to your room. Or just your building, if you'd rather." She had had him pick her up outside the building, after all, and having a good time together didn't mean she wanted to change things.

dress . shoes . ring . necklace . earrings . bracelet
Eloise had had such a great time over this Homecoming dance, a lot more than she would have anticipated. Of course, she hadn't really been worried that she wouldn't like her time with Christopher, but the other way around had caused a lot of anxiety. Thankfully enough, it didn't appear to her that he'd had a bad time at all, and she was definitely glad about that. As it was, she couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed as the evening itself came to an end, having to restrain a light sigh as the last song finished and the other guy suggested they should get going. "It would seem that way," she agreed with a light smile, heading over to grab her jacket and following him outside the gym. Glancing up at him as he suggested walking her back to her room, or just her building if she'd rather, chewing on her bottom lip lightly. She didn't have a problem with the idea of him coming up to her room with her, though at the same time she felt it made the end of the evening so final, and she definitely was not ready for the alternative, which was to invite him in her room - even if she were to do so with completely innocent intentions. However, having him drop her off at her room rather than just the dorm building meant more time with him, even if just a little, and that was enough to make up her mind. "My room is fine," she told him as they started walking toward the girls' dorm building, shivering lightly in the cool night air in spite of her jacket.

It was pretty obvious that Christopher didn't have a lot of experience with girls like Eloise. Not that that was a bad thing, or he didn't think so anyway, but it was just that the majority of the girls that he was involved with in the past had tended to be very forward. Maybe because he was a forward person, but either way, he hadn't had to worry about figuring out what they'd be comfortable with or if he should walk them back to their dorm rooms; most of them invited him inside at the end of a date. Even as Eloise told him that her room was fine, he didn't expect that from her though. She had an air of innocence about her, one that suggested that she hadn't been that involved with guys and wasn't going to rush into it. So, he simply gave a nod. "Alright, your room it is," he agreed, starting that way with her and noticing that she shivered a bit. He didn't know if it was actually from the cooler night though or if just a reaction from having gone to being in the warm gym with a lot of people to having space outside in the night. "Are you cold?"

If she was completely honest, at this point, Eloise didn't really know what to take back from tonight's dance with Christopher. It had definitely been nice, and she couldn't deny that she liked what she'd gotten to learn about him. He had very different mindsets than her on a few things, and was obviously a lot more outgoing, but somehow she hadn't found that their differences made them clash. He was a nice guy, and extremely good looking as far as she was concerned, and she'd had a great time. However, there hadn't really been any mentions of seeing this as a date or anything of the sort, and the only closeness they'd shared had been dancing on the dance floor, so she wasn't sure if he saw her as someone he wanted to pursue. Maybe she was too bland and boring for him. The thought was highly disappointing to her, but she tried not to think of it too much without a confirmation from him. If he just walked her back to her room and said goodnight and went on his way, she'd know that was pretty much it. Giving a light smile as he asked her if she was cold and shrugging lightly. "Just a little, but it's alright," she assured him. She probably just should have grabbed a vest to wear under her jacket to get her bare arms and shoulders covered a bit better, but it wasn't too bad either. "I mean, it's not like we're gonna be staying outside that long," she added.

The only thing about Eloise that Christopher found the slightest bit problematic was the fact that her sweet nature made it a little more difficult to tell what she actually thought of things. He didn't know if she'd speak up if she had a minor problem with something or if she wanted something, unlike most of the girls he'd dated who had tended to have little problem with voicing their wants and needs. Raising an eyebrow slightly as she answered his question by saying that she was a little cold but it was alright. Like that, he didn't know if that meant she actually was or if she was just too polite to suggest that he might give her his jacket or something. When she added that it wasn't like they'd be staying outside long he figured that it probably spoke to the later a little more than the former. It sounded like an amendment almost, rather than a simple statement. "Nah we won't," he agreed, moving to take off his jacket and hand it over to her. "And I'm not cold at all, so I can handle the walk over without this."

Eloise was being honest in saying she wasn't that cold. It was just a bit chilly, that was all, but she definitely could handle walking back to her dorm room in this temperature, in spite of the few shivers that kept coursing her body. Maybe she should have brought along a scarf and gloves as well, that was probably all her problem was. Nothing she couldn't deal with. Looking up as Christopher as he agreed that they wouldn't be out for much longer, giving a light smile, though it faded slightly as she noticed he then proceeded to take off his jacket and hand it over to her, adding her wasn't could at all and could handle the walk without it. "No, don't be silly," she told him with a shake of her head. "I've got my own jacket, I don't want to take yours on top of it," she added, although she couldn't help but wonder just how warm it might feel draped around her shoulders. Shaking that thought out of her mind quickly though - the last thing she wanted to do was inconvenience him, in spite of the fact that he seemed fairly sure that he wouldn't get cold. "I'm fine, really," she assured him as another shiver coursed her body. It wasn't even five minutes to the dorm building.

Sure, Christopher may have grown up in California, but he'd never been one to get cold easily. Besides, the last three years of living in Kansas City - plus visits to his grandparents at Christmas - had helped that skill develop further. Taking off his jacket wasn't a big deal. A few minutes walk would be fine, especially since he was wearing a long sleeved shirt. Listening with a bit of a frown as Eloise went on to try and say that she didn't need the jacket because she had her own and didn't want to take his. She wasn't taking it, he was offering it. Which he was going to point out, especially after she then tried to assure him that she was fine while shivering at the same time. That was super believable. "The shiver at the end really sold it," he informed her, shaking his head. He wasn't taking back the jacket, still holding it out over to her. "But I'm not going to put it back on, I've got pants and a long sleeved shirt. I offered it to, you're not taking it from me. I don't need it. So you might as well get some use out of it."

Eloise couldn't help but honestly feel bad at the idea of Christopher going ahead and giving her his jacket just because she was slightly cold, and he wasn't as much - yet, anyhow. She was sure that would be different if he insisted on giving it to her rather than putting it back on. And seeing as she'd never been really good at saying no, she knew she would end up taking it from him, if for his benefit rather than her own. Holding back a light sigh as spoke up to say he didn't plan on putting it back on, and that seeing as he was offering it, she wasn't taking it from him, adding that she might as well get some use out of it. Still not entirely comfortable with it, but unable to really decline it once more - besides, she didn't want him to think she was being ridiculous. "Alright," she gave in, reaching to take the jacket out of his hands and draping it around her shoulders, holding it closed in front of her and admittedly feeling warmer pretty much instantly. "Thank you," she added in a slightly smaller voice, unable to keep herself from wondering once more how a guy like him could even have had an interest in a girl like her to start with.

Admittedly Christopher didn't know if Eloise was going to accept the jacket or not. She didn't seem like the stubborn type, but at the same time, she did seem like someone who didn't want to take advantage of anything. Honestly though, she'd shivered a few times in the past few minutes and it was clear that she was cold, so he thought she should just take it and stop being cold. Handing over the jacket when she gave in - which, he couldn't tell exactly why she was doing it, but he realized that it was probably more to avoid things than out of now wanting it more. At this point though, he couldn't tell her nevermind. Besides, after she accepted it she did stop her shivering, so that was a plus. "It's not a problem," he shrugged when she thanked him. Noting that she looked pretty cute with the larger jacket draped around her. Continuing on for a few more feet before he spoke up again. "So, I had a good time at the dance," he commented, looking over at the Sophomore. "Which is saying something because school dances are usually pretty lame, all things considered."

The few moments of silence between Eloise bundling herself up in Christopher's jacket and him speaking up again were long enough for her to have an inner, mini panic attack. She couldn't help but wonder what he would be thinking now, because really, what girl didn't just go ahead and accept an offered jacket the first time it was offered. It wasn't like it was that big a deal, and he was old enough to know if he would be too cold to remove it. Would he think she was just being difficult, or just plain ridiculous? He probably didn't usually date girls like her, who were so shy and uncertain about everything that they had a hard time accepting any kindness if it seemed like it might be an inconvenience. He probably dated girls who asked for his jacket if they were cold. She almost breathed a sigh of relief as he finally spoke to say he'd had a good time at the date, though she still couldn't help but wonder if he was just being polite - she really had to stop trying to analyze everything he was doing right now, she'd drive herself insane. Smiling as he added that that was saying something considering how lame school dances generally were. "I really enjoyed my evening," she told him, glancing back up at him. "I'm... really glad you asked me," she added, her cheek feeling a bit too warm for how chilled the rest of her body had been only seconds ago.

School dances really had never been the best time around, but then he'd figured that with Eloise it'd have been a good starting point. For one thing, he knew little about what she'd enjoy because he hadn't really known anything about her before this evening. Not that he knew that much more now to be honest, as she didn't seem to be that inclined to talk much about herself. Still, he thought he'd made the right call. After tonight if she wanted to go out again he could ask her what she'd be interested in doing, or he could try and figure something else out. Maybe ask her friend if she had any ideas if Eloise didn't feel like giving any suggestions herself - which, he could almost foresee happening already. Smirking a little as he noticed the pink tinge on her cheeks after she'd said that she was really glad that he'd asked her. "I'm glad that you said yes," he replied teasingly, even though he was obviously serious. "Which, I was wondering, if you'd like to do it again sometime. Not the dance thing, but go out again."

It didn't take Eloise much to be uncertain about things, especially when it came to being worry that she was doing things wrong. And although she didn't think she'd been a terrible date tonight - she and Christopher had talked quite a bit, and of course they'd danced together - she still couldn't help but wonder if she could have been a better one. The only problem being that, if she could or should have been, she didn't really know why with her lack of dating experience. Then again, one might assume that if she had been a mediocre date, the older guy wouldn't have stuck around that late, he'd have suggested leaving before the night was over. Unless, of course, he didn't want to be rude as people who left early generally did so to go off and have sex, or because they were having a bad time, and since the former wasn't a possibility, the latter would have been the obvious reason. All those thoughts weighing on her mind were enough to make her a bit insecure about the whole thing, though she was happy to hear him say that he was glad she'd said yes. Not entirely expecting what he added next though, and she couldn't help but stare at him a bit as she processed the words and their meaning, on managing a one word answer at the point. "Really?"

If he were being completely honest, Christopher was expecting Eloise to say yes. Not that he liked to think of himself as infallible or even entertained the idea for a moment that he wasn't the type of guy that got turned down, because he had been turned down before when asking for a first date or a second date. However, Eloise had just admitted that she'd had a good time and while she did seem like the type that would be polite even if she'd had a terrible time, he did pride himself a little on being able to tell when people were being sincere and when they were just full of crap. She surprised him though by staring at him at first and not answering and when she finally did speak up he couldn't help but raise an eyebrow slightly. Did she think he'd just asked for the Hell of it or that he'd been joking around when presenting the invitation? He didn't quite understand. "Yes, really," he answered, giving her a bit of a strange look before he could stop himself. "I'm not in the habit of asking out girls that I don't want to go out with."

Self hatred wasn't something Eloise had experienced a lot in her life. Of course, she'd had plenty of moments of being displeased with herself, but right now really took the cake - her face reddening as she caught sight of the look Christopher sent her after her one worded response to his asking her out, which was probably not the one word he'd wanted or expected to hear. Definitely feeling uneasy as he spoke, wishing she could disappear right now, because if there were many ways to ruin a good evening, she'd probably just found one. "I... I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that," she spoke in a slightly flustered manner. "I just... I'm not really used to this, and I know it's obvious, and it makes me wonder why you even want to go out with someone like me when I'm sure you've got plenty more options that wouldn't keep making a fool of themselves," she added, her face still warm as she looked down at the ground, her fingers idly gripping onto the jacket she still held wrapped around herself. "I mean, I... I would love to go out again. If I didn't just ruin the idea of it."

After speaking up it took Christopher about twenty seconds to realize that he probably should have thought through what he said a bit more. He was so used to just freely saying what he thought, to not editing the direct nature out or from not shying away from displaying his true thoughts that he hadn't considered the way that Eloise was going to take it. He'd watched his parents interact in a similar fashion for years, but then, Eloise had little in common with his mother in terms of personality. Sighing a little as she apologized and then went on to talk about making a fool out of herself. Stopping and reaching out to grab her hand so that she would do the same, using his free hand to take her chin and make her look up at him instead of down at the ground. "You didn't ruin the idea of it and you don't have to apologize," he told her. "I'm not used to this either. To someone taking my words so seriously. I like you Eloise. Clearly you're different from the people I usually date or hang out with, but that's not a bad thing. I'm just a bit of a sarcastic ass by nature, it's something I'll need to work on."
